Mon 17 Mar, 07:00 PM

Rangers skipper Barry Ferguson will see a specialist on Tuesday over a persistent ankle problem - and hopes to be in action this weekend. The Scotland midfielder will travel with club doctor Paul Jackson to see the consultant over the minor injury.

The 30-year-old will miss Wednesday's Scottish Cup quarter-final against Partick but the Gers hope he will return for the Scottish Premier League clash with Hibernian at Ibrox on Saturday.

The ankle problem has not caused Ferguson to miss any games - he has only sat out cup ties against East Stirling and East Fife this season.

But manager Walter Smith is keen to have his captain in peak shape for the Old Firm clash against Celtic on March 29.
