Bristol City striker Steve Brooker believes Cheltenham boss Keith Downing will be the man responsible for kick-starting his career again. The City striker scored the winning goal for his loan club against bitter rivals Bristol Rovers, his fifth goal in six games since moving to Whaddon Road in the January transfer window following 18 months ravaged by injury.
"I owe a lot to Cheltenham Town and Keith Downing for taking a chance on me because I had not played regular football for 18 months," Brooker told the Gloucestershire Echo.
"This is my best run of games for nearly two years and I'm delighted to be playing and scoring again. When I broke my goalscoring duck, I didn't expect them to keep coming as frequently as they have, but I am pleased they are.
"I was getting loads of stick [from Rovers supporters] in the first half and whenever I ran back to defend a corner in the second half they were at it again. The best way to shut them up is to score the winning goal."
Brooker, 26, had not scored since City's FA Cup third round tie with Coventry in January 2007, and had to wait nine games for his first Cheltenham goal.
