Beleaguered Bournemouth will be without defensive stalwart Warren Cummings for the Easter period after finally succumbing to an infected shin. The Scottish defender suffered a knock to his infected shin in the opening seconds of the Cherries' 2-0 home win over Yeovil on Saturday, and was admitted to hospital after playing through the pain for 90 minutes.
A heavily-bandaged Cummings has played the last seven matches since sustaining the blow in Bournemouth's 4-1 win at Luton in early February, but this setback means he will miss at least the forthcoming games with Gillingham and Tranmere.
"It opened right up again," Cummings told the Daily Echo. "We couldn't stop the bleeding and there would have been a big risk of another infection if I hadn't got it sorted.
"I thought it was starting to clear up but, after about five seconds of the game, Marcus Stewart caught me right on the spot where the stitches had been.
"I've had it cleaned up and it's been properly stitched. It's disappointing and although I'm only speculating, hopefully it shouldn't be any longer than 10 days."
