Gus MacPherson admits it would be great if St Mirren could emerge victorious from the last-ever Scottish Cup tie to be played at Love Street. The Paisley side will quit their existing home at the end of this campaign, meaning Tuesday's quarter-final replay against St Johnstone is a little bit more historic than usual.
When the 2008-09 season begins they will be at a new home, which is well under construction, at Greenhill Road in the Ferguslie Park area of the town.
And MacPherson said: "It will be the last tie, there is no doubt about that. And it will add something extra to the game for that reason.
"But we want to win the game anyway, although of course it would be nice for our Scottish Cup record here."
MacPherson insists his side have only a "slight" advantage over their rival Saints following a closely-fought 1-1 in the original match a fortnight ago at McDiarmid Park.
It took a precious late goal from midfielder Andy Dorman to ensure the Buddies remained in the competition.
But despite the SPL side now enjoying home advantage over their First Division rivals, MacPherson is still expecting a tight cup battle.
He said: "We knew it would be tough going into the first match and just because we are now at home doesn't mean to say it still won't be a tough game. They have a lot of players with SPL experience and we are aware of that.
"But they had a slight advantage with the game being at home and now we'll have a slight advantage because we are at Love Street.
"But I would still expect it to be a typical cup match that both side's will dearly want to win."
The Buddies were held to a 1-1 draw by Hearts at the weekend after a late Saulius Mikoliunas goal salvaged a point for the Jambos.
Defender John Potter was taken off unconscious following a head knock early on in that SPL clash and the Paisley gaffer admits it will be touch and go whether he makes it.
MacPherson added: "He has a chance, I'd say he is 50-50 at the moment but we are prepared to give him right up until the match to be ready.
"I think anyone would say we should have won the game at the weekend.
"But it is a measure of how far we have come when that bunch of players are sitting in the dressing room disappointed with only taking a point from a team with as much quality as Hearts."
