Holland praises 'terrific' Williams

Manager Steve Holland praised Ben Williams' leadership qualities as the goalkeeper became Crewe's fourth skipper of an injury-hit season.Williams took the armband for Saturday's crucial and comprehensive win over Gillingham with club captain Neil Cox (shoulder), Julien Baudet (thigh) and Chris McCready (hamstring) all forced out of action.

"Ben is one of our most experienced players who has played a lot of games for us," Holland told the club's official website.

"He is also a terrific lad and professional. He has got another clean sheet at Gillingham, something he has done regularly of late."

Williams, in his third full season with the Railwaymen, has not conceded in three of his last four matches as a miserly Crewe have eked out five points.

Crewe moved four points clear of the Gills, who occupy the last relegation spot, though the Kent side have a game in hand on the Alex.
