Simpson: Jones decision was right

Mon 17 Mar, 05:15 PM

New Shrewsbury manager Paul Simpson has defended his decision to prematurely recall Luke Jones from his loan spell at Kidderminster.Jones came straight back in at centre-back for Simpson's first game in charge at Macclesfield, which the Shrews lost 2-1 with Jamie Tolley and Francis Green overturning Dave Hibbert's opener.

The move angered Harriers manager Mark Yates, who left Jones out of Thursday's night's game with Stevenage after learning of his impending departure.

"It was a decision that I thought was the right thing to do," Simpson told Shrewsbury's official website. "I felt we needed extra legs out there and Luke certainly gives us that. I thought he did really well out there and you couldn't fault any of the centre-backs.

"The fans gave me a good welcome but everyone's gone away disappointed. We wanted to put on a performance and give them a result that would have sent them away happy."
