Anderson has impressed since arriving at Home Park and Sturrock is hopeful of securing his services for an extended period.

Sturrock said: "Russell has done very well for us and I would like to keep him but it all depends on talks that he is having with Sunderland.

"He is due to speak to [Sunderland manager] Roy Keane and then we will know more."

Anderson, 29, joined from hometown club Aberdeen in the summer but has hardly featured for Sunderland on their promotion to the Premier League, giving away a penalty after coming on as a substitute on his league debut against Wigan.
