Burnley manager Owen Coyle is hopeful of securing Jay Rodriguez on a new deal and backed him to play a part in the club's future plans. The promising young striker, 18, has completed his first year as a professional and enjoyed a loan spell at Scottish First Division outfit Stirling.
Coyle said: "I want to keep Jay Rodriguez. I think he has an opportunity and I have already been speaking to his agent and we will look to get that resolved.
"The reason Jay went to Stirling is we knew he would get regular games. He missed six weeks with a chest problem, but he has still done well and he looks as if he is improving on a regular basis.
"The two months during the summer are important to him now because I would expect him to come back bigger and stronger and hopefully ready to show that he has a part to play at this football club."
