Penney: Reay may get chance

Thu 17 Apr, 06:45 PM

Darlington boss Dave Penney is hopeful of handing teenage striker Shaun Reay the chance to impress between now and the end of the season. The injury crisis at the club meant Penney was poised to name Reay on the bench against Hereford last weekend, before the youngster was laid low by a hamstring problem.

Penney, though, wants Reay to feature in the coming weeks when he returns back to full fitness.

"He's not ready for the first team, but we're down to the bare bones," Penney told the Northern Echo.

"Once we are guaranteed the play-offs then we might look at giving him a game but with the injuries we have at the moment he might end up playing regardless of whether or not we're in the play-offs.

"It's not the right time to be chucking kids into the team when there's all this pressure."
