Derby boss Paul Jewell have started the rebuilding of his squad by signing Australia international Ruben Zadkovich.
Zadkovich has signed a two-year contract with the Rams after deciding to leave Sydney FC at the end of his deal with the club last month to become a free agent.
The 21-year-old, who can play in central midfield or right-back, joins another Aussie at Derby in Mile Sterjovski following his arrival at Pride Park in January.
Zadkovich has impressed after a recent trial, with Jewell quick to offer him a deal as he plots an immediate return to the Premier League following relegation this season.
"Ruben impressed us enormously in training," remarked Jewell.
"A number of clubs have been interested in him, and we wanted to make sure we didn't miss out on a fantastic talent."
It is understood Crystal Palace manager Neil Warnock was amongst those keeping a close eye on Zadkovich, who began his career in QPR's youth and reserve teams.
Zadkovich then joined Notts County in March 2005, and although he scored on his debut, he moved on to Sydney six months later after making nine appearances, including six starts.
Zadkovich made 42 appearances for Sydney, scoring two goals, and recently earned a call-up to the Socceroos side after previously representing his country at under-20 and under-23 level.
