Luiz Adriano's stoppage-time goal gave Shakhtar Donetsk a 2-1 win at Marseille, setting up a UEFA Cup semi-final with fellow Ukrainians Dynamo Kiev.

Shakhtar, who won the first leg 2-0, went ahead in the return match in France when Brazilian forward Fernandinho broke down the left and scored from a tight angle on the half-hour.

Marseille, who dominated throughout but wasted several chances, levelled through forward Hatem Ben Arfa in the 43rd.

The visitors then snatched the winner three minutes into injury time.

Shakhtar's reward for knocking out the 1993 European champions is a tie against Dynamo, who beat Paris St Germain 3-0 on aggregate.

Ligue 1 leaders Marseille must now focus their attentions on trying to end seven-times champions Lyon's domestic dominance.

Shakhtar resisted under sustained pressure for most of the match while Marseille kept fighting despite spurning a host of scoring chances.

The home side almost went in front when a header from Ivory Coast forward Bakari Kone flew just wide early in the second half.

Marseille, though, rarely gave the impression they could overcome their first-leg deficit.

Substitute Mamadou Samassa scored after challenging Andriy Pyatov in the 78th minute but it was disallowed when the referee ruled he had fouled the Shakhtar keeper.

Cheered on by a packed crowd at the Velodrome stadium, Marseille kept going forward and won several quickfire corners before Brazilian forward Luiz Adriano countered by beating keeper Steve Mandanda from close range in time added on.
