Khaldun On Derby Trail

Sat 17 May, 05:09 PM

Trainer Saeed bin Suroor has revealed that Ibn Khaldun is likely to fly the flag for Godolphin in the Vodafone Derby at Epsom on June 7.

Last year's Racing Post Trophy winner failed to show his true colours in the 2000 Guineas earlier this month when finishing a disappointing 10th under Frankie Dettori.

The Irish Guineas was then mooted as a possible target but the son of Dubai Destination now has the premier Classic on his agenda, with Coral and totesport quoting him at 25-1.

"I am very happy with Ibn. Frankie rode him in work and we were happy, and he will work again next week when we will find out more about him," said bin Suroor.

"He is much better than he showed in the Guineas and I know from his work in Dubai that he is a class horse.

"He is still in the Irish Guineas and I will talk to his owner but he is more likely to run in the Derby."
