Newton Abbot Under Threat

Sat 17 May, 11:09 AM

Monday's meeting at Newton Abbot is under threat due to an unseasonable amount of rain in the area.

Officials have called an 8.30am precautionary inspection on Sunday following over 80 millimetres of rain in the last 72 hours.

"We've had an unbelievable amount, we had 61mm on Wednesday night and it was probably more but our rain gauge filled up," said clerk of the course Jason Loosemore.

"We were raceable on Friday as we only had another 2mm but we had 25mm on Friday night and it is still raining.

"The rain that fell on Wednesday fell on good to firm ground so the track could take it but Friday night's rain fell on soft ground so there is water on the track now.

"More rain is forecast so we thought it prudent to have a look and see where we are but the forecast for the next 48 hours is for some improvement."
