All four results remained feasible deep into the final hour of the LV Division One contest, in which both teams were pushing for a first win of the season.
But in the gathering gloom of a day which was cloudy throughout, it was injured strike bowler Chris Tremlett and reserve wicketkeeper Tom Burrows who ended up batting out 29 balls to ensure the stalemate.
Hampshire closed 34 runs short with just two wickets intact, after Surrey captain Mark Butcher had set them a teasing target of 281 in 75 overs.
An unbeaten century from Murray Goodwin led Sussex to safety on a low-key final day of their Division One match with Somerset at Taunton
The visitors, who began the day on 36 for one, needed a further 318 to avoid an innings defeat.
But they never looked in danger as first Michael Yardy, with 78, and then Goodwin, with 106 not out, frustrated the Somerset attack.
Goodwin, who battled away for 188 balls and hit 11 fours, shared an unbroken fourth-wicket stand of 117 with skipper Chris Adams (39 not out) as Sussex closed on 272 for three when bad light ended play at 4.45pm.
Stephen Moore became the first batsman to complete 500 runs this season when leading Worcestershire to safety in their rain-interrupted Division Two clash with Gloucestershire at New Road.
Forced to follow on 230 runs behind after their first innings dismissal for 214, the home side comfortably secured a fourth successive draw by making 196 for three in a much improved performance second time round.
Moore took his total to 567 runs from nine innings but narrowly failed to reach his fourth century of the summer when dismissed for 84 after facing 113 balls. In a polished display, he hit a dozen fours and a big six.
Derbyshire escaped with a draw on the final day of their rain-affected clash with Glamorgan at Cardiff.
Glamorgan had been in a strong position throughout but the 109 overs of the match lost to rain and bad light ultimately put paid to the home side's hopes of a second four-day win of the season.
Derbyshire, who took nine points, were indebted to Dan Birch for a rearguard effort which saw him score 43 and help his side to 184 for seven - a lead of 89 - when the players shook hands with seven overs remaining
