Alan Shearer blasted referee Howard Webb after he disallowed a goal from Mark Viduka as Newcastle plunged back into the relegation zone.
The Magpies were trailing 1-0 to Fulham at St James' Park when the Australia international headed home a 50th-minute Danny Guthrie corner. Referee Webb ruled out the strike for a foul on goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer by Kevin Nolan, although television replays suggested Shearer's side were desperately unfortunate.
Manager Shearer and assistant Iain Dowie confronted the official as he left the pitch, and the manager said: "We are bitterly disappointed at the disallowed goal. I have seen it and I can't see anything that's wrong with it."
He added: "Probably what has happened is the goal on Monday night from Steven Taylor has been highlighted that much this week that one or two people have thought, 'We might try to clamp down on that this weekend'.
"You are allowed to put someone in front of the goalkeeper - I am not aware that you are meant to get out of the way of him.
"I thought their player was blocking him more than Kevin Nolan was, so I am disappointed with that."
Asked if he had managed to speak to Webb, Shearer said: "Not yet, but I am going to try.
"I thought he got the big decision wrong. When he looks at it, he might think that as well."

Blast the referee ok he did not have a good game, there again a few players could do with a blast.
Wake up Newcastle, you have a bad team filled with over paid has beens, actually you are embarrasing, poor team supoorted by 50,000 fools who pay hard earned money (most from the dole) to watch @#$%.
Page7, do you think marnio is really from Peru, I thought it was just some daft mackem trying (a bit too hard) to be funny
Marnio.Like everyone else outside the north east you don,t understand do you? Up here we love our football clubs,it,s a passion.Win lose or draw we,re there. So far as your other remarks about cavemen and drugs and no jobs,i,ve seen peruvians(not so pretty mate).Dos,nt a large amount of the worlds drugs come from your neck of the woods and jobs,i have worked all my life in the north east and never been unemployed.Just to finish off it seems we have a better education system or are you just stupid.
Howard Webb awards Manchester United a very soft penalty against Spurs and then after the game, admits he was wrong to award it. He then comes to Newcastle and disallows a perfectly good goal that would have levelled the scores. Since when was standing in front of a goalkeeper an offence punishable by a free kick? Besides, the Fulham defender blocked Schwarzer more then Nolan did. Is Mr Webb now going to award free kicks every time a player stands in front of a goalkeeper? I don't think so.
I here BT have already scheduled repairs to the Big market phone box for next Monday Morning. I bet it is @#$% itself, poor thing.
Even if Newcastle stay up this season, next season is likely to be another struggle. I believe that within 10 years there will be a dramtic change in football, teams will have to field a proportion of home-grown talent and that will be when things improve for Newcastle. In the meantime, let's hope for stability - that's what this club needs now.
these are all big games at this time of season & every goal is crucial, so it's real shame to see that we have to deal with contentious decisions (or just plain blunders...) right till the end. Good luck to NUFC & Shearer.
Nice to hear you geordie's being honest, I'm a Mackem but i would still like you's to play in the epl next season with us, If we get a win on monday. There's nowt better than the Tyne/Wear derby for us lot. I'm not going to wish you's good luck against Villa next week, Because we might need you's to get beat ourselves.
But hears hoping were all in the promise land next season. Sunderland A.F.C. top dogs of the north east.
( i kinder like the sound of that)
NEWCASTLE UNITED FOR LIFE , NOT JUST THE PREMIER LEAGUE.
THROUGH THICK AND THIN WE WILL BE THERE.
Hello, my footy fans, it marnio here from the peru.
now the georgies are going to be the regulated. they were once the greatest football team in the world but now they the ruubish. they have the many fans, but they all like the cave man. they drink the many pints of the beer which destroy all their brain cells. they walk about and grunt at each other like the primates. for them the football and the heavy drinking is all they have. the georgie land is like the bomb site, there no work, the no food and the no prospects. the place is like the time that civilisation forgot. for these people mr shearer and mr keegan let down the very badly.
can not take it when it happens 2 u but if it happens for u u will love it
it's all well n good wanting another manager in but who the hell would want the job...and who the hell do we want?
it's a very hard question and another question is do we want an english manager or a foreigner theres a lot of dead wood as you say but do we want to build a fire with the wood or make a good old geordie team full of pride n guts like we had before ashley came........years ago when my grandad watched the toon i saw his face when the match was over ....happiness pride and looking to the future..................WHAT'S OUR FUTURE NOW?...
from sad liz....... xxxxxx
im a toon fan and after reading all these comments i cant even be bothered to write anything positive...... sad sad sad........liz
Shearer left with an expensive pile of "deadwood" players to get rid of before he even thinks of building a team worthy of wearing the black n white shirt.
G'day jack, me awld sparring partner; hope you're having a good one.
Owt can happen mate; remember west ham going to man united a couple of years ago, remember fulham last year , and WBA 4 or 5 years ago. Of course we can get something at Villa, absolutely yes; especially backed by an army of thousands. Oh and by the way jack, you're still in it up to your neck!
I am grateful we're still in with a shout - never thought it possible a couple of months ago.
Yes the fat lady may be clearing her throat, but she ain't singing . . . . yet!!!
Shearer a manager .. never in a month of sundays .. cannot pick a team .. cannot use subs in the right way .. now he has had a go let all us newcastle fans put the sherer for manager to bed and get a proper manager in
Hey even from 10,000 miles away in kalamunda,Western Australia, things are looking pretty bleak eh,Mags not gonna get anything from the Villa game, sorry Cameron me old mucker, but it looks like goodnight Irene.
The Torrence Meister
Ok let's put this one to bed!
To all the mis-informed and ill-informed, to the biased and to the downright dishonest.
Can somebody please, please come on here and give me ONE instance where a single NUFC fan has referred to any manager as 'the messiah'!!!!
You cannot, because it is not true!
Give me one single occasion when any NUFC fan has said we are too good to go down, OR we should be in the Champions League OR we are this that or evn t'other!!!
You cannot, because it is not true!
There are several reasons why you come on here spouting your puerile drivel; my money's on the fact that NUFC, for whatever reason, is ALWAYS headline news and ALWAYS attracts column inches and televion coverage - what's the matter, is your club being ignored! Does your club not get any of the limelight; i mean for such a small club, i've never seen so much of a hoo-ha!
Is it our attendance you are jealous of, or our passion for the game - isn't it funny how all the luminaries of the game, all the people who actually know a thing or two about the game have completely different views to you lot.
Any mackems out there, then i can understand as it is indoctrinated; but as for the rest?
You keep your English Premier League, because in less than 10 years you'll be praying for the likes of Newcastle United in there - once the self-proclaimed 'Big-4' have deserted you all and joined the European Super League that will inevitably happen!
Call yourselves football fans?
Seen better behaviour from 10 year olds - shame on you all!
