Premier League - Shearer blasts Webb over 'goal'

Eurosport - Sun, 17 May 15:54:00 2009

Alan Shearer blasted referee Howard Webb after he disallowed a goal from Mark Viduka as Newcastle plunged back into the relegation zone.

2008-2009 Newcastle United Alan Shearer - 0

The Magpies were trailing 1-0 to Fulham at St James' Park when the Australia international headed home a 50th-minute Danny Guthrie corner. Referee Webb ruled out the strike for a foul on goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer by Kevin Nolan, although television replays suggested Shearer's side were desperately unfortunate.

Manager Shearer and assistant Iain Dowie confronted the official as he left the pitch, and the manager said: "We are bitterly disappointed at the disallowed goal. I have seen it and I can't see anything that's wrong with it."

He added: "Probably what has happened is the goal on Monday night from Steven Taylor has been highlighted that much this week that one or two people have thought, 'We might try to clamp down on that this weekend'.

"You are allowed to put someone in front of the goalkeeper - I am not aware that you are meant to get out of the way of him.

"I thought their player was blocking him more than Kevin Nolan was, so I am disappointed with that."

Asked if he had managed to speak to Webb, Shearer said: "Not yet, but I am going to try.

"I thought he got the big decision wrong. When he looks at it, he might think that as well."

Shearer holds a record that will stand FOREVER!
Premier League's leading goalscorer - this record will never, ever be broken.
Not bad for the most over-rated player ever, who played in a very unsuccessful team that won nothing.
    Oh you do talk nonsense!

  2. Sunwin23 I can remember a lot further back than most people on here probably lol and it hasnt changed in over 30 years constant mis-management from the boardroom down with the exception of Sir John Hall/KK days and the few years Sir Bobby was there.

The list of idiot chairman and managers we've had is beyond belief Lord Westood, Fat Stan Seymour Snr & Jnr, Gordon McKeag, Fat Freddie sll screwed the club. Ruud Gullit, Kenny Dagliesh, Graeme Souness, Sam Allardyce, Ossie Ardiles, Gordon Lee.

Wonder if Blyth Spartans have season tickets lmfao.

  6. Not good that the goal was disallowed but lets be honest for the rest of the season we have been pathetic for the most part so 1 disallowed goal shouldnt be viewed as the deciding factor of our now almost certain relegation.

Black and White through and through!

Congratulations manchester united on winning the Premier League and congratulations to every club that has gained promotion from their respective divisions this year.
Good luck to all clubs in their respective play-off finals and commiserations to all the supporters of clubs who have been relegated, i hope next season is a better one for you all.
