Fulham manager Roy Hodgson was delighted with the way his side held out in the face of a late onslaught after a 1-0 win at Newcastle.
Diomansy Kamara struck in the 41st minute to lift Fulham up to seventh where they occupy the final Europa League place, but Newcastle were unlucky to have Mark Viduka's 50th-minute strike ruled out by referee Howard Webb for a foul on goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer by Kevin Nolan.
Hodgson said: "We came here to some extent as sacrificial lambs.
"It was a great win here. I feel sorry for Newcastle - they deserved better, we rode our luck on several occasions.
"We are thankful for a very good performance from our back four and goalkeeper."

noticed Lawrie Sanchez not being mentioned for the Reading post, Thank heavens Mr Al Fayed saw sense and employed a real manager. The manager of the year should be nailed on for Roy if there's any justice in this world. Thankyou and many congrats from a born Fulham fan. Nigel Lambson
I think he should succeed SAF in Man Utd.
No question Roy Hodgson is the manager of the year. With the money he's spent (especially when compared to our nearest rivals Tottenham) and players he's got in for free he has moulded a consistent 'TEAM' that has a wonderful work ethic. I can't believe Mark Schwarzer did not recieve any nominations for player of the year awards, possibly the best goal keeper this season in the PL.
Well done Roy and everybody at FFC, an outstanding season
Hands up I was one of Roys' doubters, never been so glad to be so wrong. What could Roy Hodgson do if he had some money, which obviously he would like, but, I believe his strength is being able to genuinely get the best from his players, a proper Manager for Fulham.
Fantastic manager; a true gentleman.
Respect for Roy Hodgson, manager of the year for me.
