McGhee wants Sheridan back

Motherwell manager Mark McGhee is keen to keep hold of Cillian Sheridan after the on-loan Celtic striker's match-winning display in a 3-0 win at Hamilton.

Motherwell, already safe in seventh place, secured a comfortable win thanks to goals from David Clarkson, Sheridan and substitute John Sutton in the local derby.

McGhee said: "Cillian Sheridan played as a single striker. That's not a way we normally play and at times he was isolated, but he still ran the channels and held the ball up, scored a brilliant goal and put the ball on a plate for John Sutton, who's arguably the best finisher at the club.

"We'll be investigating what Gordon Strachan's plans are for Cillian and I certainly would be more than happy to keep him here a bit longer if Gordon isn't quite ready to have him back.

"He's been impressive. He went through a wee spell where he seemed to have lost his way a bit, but has come out of that and has been important and done well. I hope he feels he,s benefited from being here, but we think he has."
