Cheltenham have completed the signing of midfielder Alex Russell from Championship outfit Bristol City.The 35-year-old - who made 13 appearances in a loan spell with Cheltenham last season - has put pen to paper on a two-year contract.

Russell was part of the City side that won promotion to the Championship in the 2006/07 season, but spent the majority of last season on loan at Northampton and Cheltenham.

Cheltenham boss Keith Downing told the club's official website: "I am absolutely delighted to have Alex on board with us - we are all keen to push on and move the club forward and Alex wants to be part of that.

"He was a big influence on our recovery last season and his experience will be invaluable to us.

"Alex has a strong desire to prolong his career and I'm sure he can play a major role for us over the next two years."
