Gillingham boss Mark Stimson has challenged Gary Mulligan to nail down a regular starting spot after the striker signed a new deal. The 23-year-old Irishman penned a one-year extension to his contract last week, and after scoring just five times last season as the Gills were relegated from League One, the former Wolves and Sheffield United man will be looking to add to his goal tally next season.
Stimson said: "It's really pleasing news. He's someone who I think can be a big player in Division Two and now he's decided to sign that's good.
"He's going to do his utmost to get in the starting XI because what we're starting to get now is two, three, four players for each position.
"That's nice and competitive and with that, the best ones will perform, get in the team and hopefully score the goals."
