Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has revealed that he has no plans to carry out a swoop for Hamburg defender Vincent Kompany this summer.Wenger had been expected to strengthen his back-line as he looks to rework his side ahead of the 2008/09 term.
Centre-back Kompany, who signed for Hamburg from Anderlecht in 2006, has previously been linked with a move to Emirates Stadium, with Wenger publicly expressing his interest in the 22-year-old.
But it appears the Frenchman has had a rethink over which departments he needs to fortify during the transfer window.
"I have been interested in Vincent Kompany ever since he was 16, but I am not interested in him this year," Wenger told The Sun. "There is nobody I need for my team's defensive department.
"I still follow Kompany's progress all the time and I know him very, very well. But he will not be an Arsenal player next season - and you can print that.
"I know all the good Belgian players. Arsenal are following a number of them with great interest, although I won't name names."

I think we could do with Kompany... he s better than Eboue!....
Bottom line is... if we re looking to win anything this season... we need to put our hands in the pocket and buy 2 or 3 quality guys.... i.e- David Villa, Gareth Barry, and Nasri!!!
Wenger know what he is doing,i just which he can sign in villa and some other good player this season.i remain asenal fan for life.
