LONDON (AFP) - Cristiano Ronaldo appears to be edging closer to joining Real Madrid after reports in England on Tuesday claimed the Manchester United winger is ready to demand a transfer after Euro 2008.
Ronaldo has made it clear he would like to sign for the Spanish champions if they meet his wage demands, but United are determined to keep the Portugal winger.
United reported Real to UEFA for trying to unsettle their prize asset but Bernd Schuster's club are still ready to make Ronaldo the highest paid player in the world if he can persuade United to bow to his wishes.
That has led to a stand-off between the two clubs that Ronaldo appears set to resolve himself.
He could be set to hand in a transfer request or even refuse to report for pre-season training according to the Times, who report that Ronaldo told a source he "would do everything in his power to perusade United to sell".
The former Sporting Lisbon star is expected to issue a further statement, outlining his intentions as soon as he finishes with Portugal's Euro campaign.
Ronaldo only signed his current 120,000 pounds a week contract with United 16 months ago but he could expect to at least double that sum if he switched to the Bernabeu.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson claimed earlier this month that he would let Ronaldo rot in the reserves rather than be bullied into selling him.
He is unlikely to be tempted to change his mind by reports that Real are ready to offer Brazil winger Robinho as part of the deal.
With Ronaldo appearently determined to quit, the saga could turn ugly.
The Daiy Mirror reports that a close friend said: "Ronaldo has made his mind up now and feels it is just time to wait before he announces what he will do - which is to go to Madrid.
"The announcement about Cristiano's future will be the next step, but it won't happen until the end of Euro 2008 for him and Portugal.
"He is determined to be the master of his own future. The decision has been made and now it's a case of everybody getting in position for the future - even if United aren't yet ready to sit down and talk to Real."

Yeah why doesnt sir alex buy Joao Moutinho because we are getting rid of a right wing forward it seems only natural for the best manager in world football to replace him with a center midfielder!!! Why dont we while we are at it sell van der sar and put saha in goal! Ronaldo is a great player one for the fans its not only on the pitch he performs! But if he really wants to do then so be it long gone are the days when a player will stay at a club for 10 15 years giggs like they with the help of the agents are looking to line the pockets who can blame them?
Keep him and let him rot in the reserves if he doesn't wanna perform
(It is UNFAIR to criticise his loyalty. He is not a British and he did not start as a kid in the Man U training school. He is a Portuguese, who would naturally think Spanish clubs are what he dreams for. He's just now looking for a move to his dream club since he was young. What's wrong with that? And we have to remember that he's done a lot for our club, won even the top European prize with us. His contributions are sensational.
As a big fan of Man U, I don't want him to go. But if he goes, I wish him all the very best and I believe the Spanish football style (more technical, less physical) suits him very well and he will flourish. Of course, getting the 75m is very good to buy some very decent players and then move on. But I do not choose to be bitter about him leaving. I will wish him well and at the same time I believe Man U will move on with no problems.) hes a great player yes, but as we saw at the euro's in an average team (which R.M are) hes nothing special,
(errrr... ferguson, can u buy Joao Moutinho(sporting lisbon) to replace cristiano ronaldo?) hes 5 foot nothing and quite slow, he wont be @#$% in the premiership!!
haha why do the best players always want to leave united???? if they are the so called best??? obviously Real Madrid and Barcelona are still way ahead!!
errrr... ferguson, can u buy Joao Moutinho(sporting lisbon) to replace cristiano ronaldo?
Ronaldo! jz take ur step move to R.M,see what will happen on the next 2 or 3 years...
at the time u will miss ur time with M.U,for us theres no problem if ur move or not coz Fergie will find more player better than u to M.U!think about ur future,we wish u get the same luck as david beckham,m.oven n more player which move to the f@##%&king club R.M,by the time u will have the very bad session there, gud job man!

Take the money and buy two better more loyal players, Ronaldo will find that its not him who makes MAN UTD but MAN UTD who made him, he needs to remember that the ball is passed to him by others which helps make him the goal scoring star!
get david villa and sneijder

Man Utd live after gigantics as B. Charlton, D.Law, G.Best, B.Robson, E.Cantona, D,Beckham, R.Keane, R.V.Nistelrooy and many other. How is Cristiano? God? I think NO! Ask for him 70M Pounds and Robinho. This is a good job. Ronaldos way in Real same as: M.Owen, J.Woodgate, D.Beckham and many more.

sell ronaldo. man utd r biger club with out him.
SELL HIM TO BATH CITY FOR £20
let him go.He thinks he's that good he cant be tackled. When he gets fouled,he goes down like he's been shot by a sniper. If he was a great player he would honour his contract.HE EARNS MORE IN A WEEK ,THAN THE NORMAL WORKING MAN EARNS IN A LIFETIME.Still he's not happy.BYE BYE Ronaldo i hope Man u draw Real in the champions league and the portugese numpty scores an own goal.He already plays for one of the biggest clubs in the world and has one of the greatest managers of the modern day,and still he's not happy. While the honest hardworking supporters struggle to buy tickets in the middle of a credit crunch
If you sell ronaldo, with the money buy David Villa,Messi and Robhinio
forget about Berbotov buy David Villa
let him go van dar saar is my hero
ronaldo, please think wisely... don't do anything you might regret in the future...
you'll become a superclass player in man utd... and if you have a bad season, i don't think they will throw you away...
just sell the idiot and move on with it.. I'm sick and tired of reading about this everyday. Real Madrid SUCKS anyway... too many stars but can't win the CL
