Lyon hope to name Claude Puel as their new coach "by the end of the week" following confirmation Alain Perrin will leave the Stade Gerland.

Les Gones president Jean-Michel Aulas revealed Perrin's impending departure at the unveiling of new signing Jean Makoun on Monday and followed that up by admitting Lille boss Puel was the man they had earmarked to replace him.

Aulas told the club's official website: "Discussions have started with Lille although no decision has yet been made.

"Claude Puel is one of the coaches who interests us. He is also interested but is under contract with Lille.

"We must await the decision of the Lille directors, which should come in the next 48 hours.

"It is a painful thing for them to handle but I am hopeful.

"I would like it done by the end of the week."

Perrin guided Lyon to the league and cup double last season but failed to make much of an impact in the Champions League, the club going out to Manchester United in the first knockout round.
