Premier League - Deco tells Ronnie: Choose Blues

Eurosport - Tue, 17 Jun 15:58:00 2008

Deco has stated that he does not want to see Ronaldinho join Manchester City, and wants them to team up with Luiz Felipe Scolari at Chelsea.

FOOTBALL 2007-2008 La Liga Ronaldinho y Deco, en el entrenamiento del FC Barcelona - 0

The Portuguese international believes that his current Barca team-mate should aim to continue playing at the highest level in Europe.

Ronaldinho is said to have received offers from Manchester City, LA Galaxy and Chelsea, while Milan's interest has cooled, and Deco believes that only the Blues can offer him what he deserves.

"With the greatest respect to Manchester City, I would not like to see Ronaldinho go there and play for them," the midfielder told El Mundo Deportivo.

"I still consider Ronaldinho to be one of the best players in the world. He needs a huge team to express himself in, one that plays in the Champions League and aims to win it.

"It would be very good for him to go a really big club, a team with grand aspirations and that will make him feel like he did at Barca.

"He needs that as a person as much as a player."

Deco has already admitted he is also considering a move to Chelsea and he could see himself playing with Ronaldinho at Stamford Bridge.

"I would like Ronnie to play with me for Chelsea," he continued.

  3. As a Chelsea fan I am appalled at the thought of all these over-pampered self serving prima donnas coming to Chelsea! What are we? Barcelona Old Boys! We need players approaching their peak not paying huge sums for those past it. Deco used to be a great player as did Ronaldhino - but why are Barca getting rid of them? Who next? The big fat Ronaldo!

  4. To Chris A: Well the La Liga my friend is the strongest championship in the world and this is based on facts, not delusions. The Premier league has the strongest 4 teams in the world, but the rest of it is just rubbish.
    1) From 1997-1998 season to 2007 - 2008 season there has been 4 times Spanish champ and 3 times English champ in the Champions league.
    2) For the last 10 years only 5 English teams have played in the champions league.(Man U, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Leeds). The Spanish teams are 9 (Real Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Deportivo La Coruna, Celta, Betis, Sevilla, Villareal, Athletic).
    3) 3 UEFA cups for Spain last 10 years - 1 for England and guess who - Liverpool :)
    4) The great Liverpool struggled against Alaves in their UEFA cup final wining it 5-4 with golden goal.
    5) 15th placed Espanyol has beaten second placed Werder Bremen 3:0 in the UEFA Cup semifinal last year.
    6) Sevilla won the UEFA cup twice in a row and won 4-0 against Middlesbrough in the first final.

These are only the facts that i remember and i'm sure there are more. So please tell me of the successes the English teams have achieved without the big 4 and i'll agree with you.
By the way i'm not Spanish, i'm from Bulgaria which makes me neutral to both countries.

    Cheers!

  7. the barca love yes its sad about his family life but we all have problems in life and most dont have the money he has ?? yet we still have to work and earn money , its called life , deco is also a very selfish man , you have put him on big chair as you must love him , but at the end of the day we still have to work , and yes we get fed up with our jobs but like him with millions in the bank we cannot just ask for a job move , think before you rant about his life as we have all gone through some crisis in life but still worked ,

  8. says alot for deco saying ronaldinho is best playing at a big club is not barc a big club ???? he as become lazy and has to much money and deco well it was the gang of three who got the manager the sack as they were always faking injury , i really hope chelsea gets these two players as london has a good night life , as these two players lacked the proffesional qualities in what they should have , so if chelsea get these to misfits i reckon it wont be long before they are injured , its a shame but a known fact as the barc president stated and if its not true why they happy to let them go ????

  9. I can only assume the negative comments about Man City r off Man U "supporters"? By the way, if you want directions to MCR then just go up north on the M6 up to Jct 19, following signs for Manchester. As a matter of fact, stay down south, there too many southerners coming up here to watch football!!

  12. lala_116, the only one round here who's stupid is you! Your comment simply doesn't make any sense! your grasp of the English language is appalling! I'm pretty sure the team who you follow are far more hated than Man City!

  14. I am surprised by the ignorance at some of the comments on here. Ronnie did get bored and lazy but that isn't the case with Deco. For starters, he was plagued by injuries this season...when he did play, he played well. Then he was getting a divorce and found out his now 9 month old baby is very ill (some reports say leukemia, others say the doctors haven't a clue). He has been spending all night and day in the hospital with his baby David, then going to training - what the hell do people expect. Regardless, people are hypocrites, everyone gets bored after being in the same job for several years and then you start to slack, why would it be different with football - it's their job. It really happens to the great ones a lot too. Then you have to consider the media pressure (look at what happened to Michael Owen).

I have my doubts about either going to the PL myself because they are used to playing beautiful football, football with flair, not rugby-style football. I'd love to see them go to Italy. Wherever they go, I really hope they recapture their beautiful skills.

  16. Ronaldinho could be the best player before with barca but with chelsea he`s better with
chelsea so he could score goals or make setups for lamps drogba(if he was not playing
with milan)and deco(if he was playing for chelsea. So i think that Deco`s right
    ronnie should play for chelsea.

  17. I agree that Ronaldinho is one of the best players of all time. The guy is just good. His form may have gone down but he is no doubt still one of the best players I have seen in the world of soccer. He should play for the one the top teams in the premiership. I would prefer he plays for ManU. Go Ron go..!!!

  18. Ronaldinho is one of the best players of all time.He deserves a good team.

  19. Sorry, but i don't think they may settle thmselves in the premier league. They may be class players but guys please don't forget that the Premier League has to be physical. Are they strong and fast enough and have the stamina to cope with it especially at their age?

From lohkinghung, on Tue 17 Jun 3:44PM
  20. Ronaldinho and Deco may not have have had the best of seasons but I'm still certain that they'll run the Premiership defences ragged. After all the Premiership is a step down from La Liga. Just ask Torres and Ronaldo!
Form is temporary but class is permanent. Go Ronnie and Deco, make all of those critics eat their words. Make them realise how their English players are all over rated.
Yep, English players also go to pubs and have a good time...drinking beer, partying with the women and even damaging clubs and patrons. Yet they're still given godly status.
Give me a break! Deco and Ronnie will teach Cole and Lampard a thing or two about football tricks!
