The Magpies then take on Reading in their first match at St James' Park a week later.
They have to wait until December 19 for a home derby date with Middlesbrough with the return at the Riverside Stadium on March 13. A trip to QPR awaits Newcastle on the final day on May 2.
Middlesbrough have been handed a tricky opener as they entertain Sheffield United, who were beaten in the Championship play-off final by Burnley.
A trip to Swansea follows for Gareth Southgate's side before they take on promoted Scunthorpe at Glanford Park. Boro also finish the campaign on the road with a trip to League One champions Leicester.
Having been given a home clash with Newcastle to kick off their return to the Championship, West Brom then head to Nottingham Forest, which is followed by a trip to Peterborough.
With Wolves and Birmingham back in the Premier League, their closest rivals are now Coventry. They first meet at the Ricoh Arena on October 24 before the return on March 23. Albion end their season with a visit from Barnsley.
Leicester mark their return to the Championship at the first attempt with a home clash against Swansea which is followed by tricky games at Ipswich and Sheffield United.
They face East Midlands rivals Derby at the Walkers Stadium on October 17 with the return at Pride Park on March 27, while a trip to Nottingham Forest is the highlight on December 5 before they meet again on February 27. A home clash with Middlesbrough will bring the curtain down on their campaign.
Peterborough have been handed a tricky start to life in the Championship as they head to Derby before home games against Sheffield Wednesday and relegated West Brom.
And Scunthorpe, who beat Millwall in the play-off final, head to Cardiff on the opening day before home games against Derby and relegated Middlesbrough, who they head to on Boxing Day.

2010 opening fixture - Burton Albion V Newcastle Utd, you should find their ground easily enough, but if you need directions, just drive south out of Toonland and just keep going down, you should be very good at that by then!
Not so humbleman6930:
are you in need of company; is that why you frequent these boards?
Personally, i think you are nuts, whacko, off your tree, tv rental, cuckoo . . . know what i mean!
toonrdoon
Yeah you're right; got you mixed up with some other 15 year old piece of rubbish . . . . cretin.
Reality has hit I see - the Toon are Doon and doesn't it hurt them?
? cameron w?? I'm glad to say I don't know you. I'm lucky, I don't know any black and whites. Magpies are vermin and farmers should continue to shoot them and skunks, well they just stink - you are clearly both and so I definitely would not want to know you. Is that clear enough?
Wowwwww what thrilling fixture list, still you deserve to be where you are, very poor team.
toonrdoon
i think i know you . . . . very sad.

You guys crack me up. The Doon to win the Championship? LOL. Get real! Mid table, if you start well, probably 12th - 14th, anything higher should be taken as a bonus.
Anyway, I've decided to follow my own advice: SAFCALSFTM (FTM should really appear twice): SAFC: A Love Supreme, Forget The Mags, Follow The Mackems. So long, farewell, its time for me to go. We'll meet again, don't know where, don't know when, but I'm sure we'll meet again some sunny day (but not for a few seasons yet, unless we get drawn together in a cup game).
