Premier League - Gerrard ponders retirement

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has revealed he is considering retiring at the end of his current contract.

The 29-year-old England midfielder has a deal until 2013 with the Reds, but admits it could be his last in football.

"I'll be 33 at the end of my contract, and it's doubtful whether I'll carry on," he said in an interview with France Football. "If I decide to stop, I'll be proud of the fact I've spent my entire career with the same club."

Gerrard also revealed he gave serious thought to leaving Anfield for Chelsea four years ago, but changed his mind late in the day.

"I've thought about leaving Liverpool twice during my career, especially in 2005 when Chelsea was a temptation," he added.

"But I'm glad I never turned those thoughts into reality."

    I am an MU fanatic, but each of us­ are fully aware that Gerrard is class and in my­ opinion, the best in the world in his position.

  8. I'm a Liverpool supporter, tho I do idmire some­ player who pay against us but in reallity Stev G is­ unique in overall, he doen't get exhausted. His­ quality of mid fielding, defending and scoring is un­ beleavable.The nxt ones are Ronaldo and lampard in­ English league.

  10. I have, as a Chelsea supporter, nothing but admiration­ for Gerrard. People in general are not reminded often­ enough that the man is World Class, and a decent,­ 'straight up and down' chap to boot (if you­ will pardon the pun). I believe he would have loved the­ England captaincy, but was gracious, professional, and­ loyal in losing out to John Terry. The only thing that­ stops me wishing him well in lifting The Premiership­ before hanging up his boots is that he plays for the­ wrong team! On a serious note, I don't think he­ would have been happy with a move to London, so with­ his heart on his sleeve, I always respected his­ decision. Future Anfield manager, down The Road ...?

    Stevie G is a credit to his team,­ and his country's squad, as well. He is a class­ player, and a real winner. About the only negative­ thing I can think to say is that he occasionally goes­ down a little too easily. That being said, my team had­ the biggest diver in the Premier League, so who can­ really complain? At any rate, well done, Steven, you­ are absolute class.
