Wigan chairman Dave Whelan will meet Manchester United and Real Madrid representatives in the next three or four days to discuss the potential transfer of Ecuador winger Antonio Valencia.
United have made a £16 million bid for Latics star Valencia, while Real are also interested, as are a third, unnamed, club.
Whelan said in the Daily Star: "United have got a meeting with us in the next three or four days, Real Madrid have got a meeting with us in the next three or four days, and the other team have asked for a meeting.
"We can't tell anybody where they're going to go and play. If Real offered £2m pounds more than United, or vice-versa, it would depend on where the lad wants to go."
Whelan also insists that he will not be leaking the name of the third team chasing the 23-year-old, but has said that the club is not from England.
"All season Real have followed him big style, Manchester United followed him big style and there is another club who have just come in from Europe, who we were unaware of," he added.
"I swore I wouldn't reveal the identity of the other team because they are frightened of Real or United finding out."

Arteta has the skill - would be interesting to see how he responded to the challenge of playing for United. Fabregas and/or Van Persie would be brilliant signings, but in the realms of fantasy footie, I fear.
But I love the idea of Arsenal becoming some sort of feeder club for trophy-winning United. Can you just imagine Wenger's reaction if a reporter raised the idea?
trevor just in case of injury to hargreaves i would have yaya toure he is strong and a good ball winner plus versatile he play centre back against us no problem
totally agree trevor what do you think of arteta at everton i personally like fabregas but would we get him is another story what do you make of the van persie story i like him he would be class at united
newcastleian1 i discounted joey cos he dont look good in stockings ha ha plus he is a scumbag
Dazmanutd: I agree that in theory Hargreaves could be the ball winner. But I have doubts about relying on someone who has played only about six months in two years. Will he ever be the same player again, especially in such a physically demanding role? Carrick is good, but not top drawer. Can look great spraying passes around against weaker teams who give him time and space, but too often a passenger in big games against quick, skillful opponents.
And watching Anderson shoot is true comedy. How did United end up with the only Brazilian (almost ever in the history of football?) whose shots are more likely to hit corner flags than the goal?
pleese let me win one premia leg medul bfor i go to spainland wiff rafa.
the fog on the tyne is all mine all mine
dazmanutd....you didnt mention joey barton??
trevormarch33 we have already got one of the players you mention in hargreaves but your right about a creative midfielder cos anderson isnt gonna be that carrick will be okay once we get hargreaves playing again and cover will be there from giggs scholes and anderson i personally would like someone in there like fabregas who makes himself look like he as all the time in the world on the ball as getting xavi or iniesta is just a no-go or maybe arteta from everton who i think is very underated i also think we need to get benzema or villa and someone who can play on the left wing ashley young would be my choice there anyway we got the cash so lets hope the signings are good ones and help us get more trophies this season
the tyne is on the fog?????
the fog is on the tyne
I would welcome him! :D
mancdetester you must be kidding man city owners said there would be world signings coming last season and they couldnt even get kaka nor any other superstar
pleese let me win one premia leg medul bfor i go to spainland wiff rafa.
allthese manc,s are @#$% themselves over man city and thier billions,
Paul Harman post 20: You had your chance and you blew it big time. All the work done by Shankly, Paisley etc. now means nowt. Last season United took only four points off it's nearest rivals, indeed could afford to lose twice to their nearest rival yet still emerged as Premier League Champions. My lad is 27 and he cannot ever remember Liverpool ever being champions, that is a sad fact for every 27 year old in the world! This is what all scousers are clinging on to - history. You've not won out for years yet still think you have a successful team. Reality is you were lucky last season, United strolled it, and fact is there are much better equiped teams than Liverpool who can win the league. Beneathus has won two cups on penalties, how lucky is that. Benethus by name, beneath us by nature. If you think you will emulate last seasons peak, I think your brain is as empty as Gerrards trophy cabinet.
The departure of Ronaldo and probably Tevez should not distract SAF from his main priority: mending his weak midfield. All the srikers in the world will not perform without bullets to fire. United's midfield was being overrun by most decent opposition at the end of the '07/'08 campaign (including Chelsea in CL final) and it went downhill throughout '08/'09. Aside from the obvious thrashings by Liverpool and Barcelona, it also explains the heavy weather they made of beating lesser teams.
Not one of the current line-up is fit to be mentioned in the same breath as Robson, Keane or Scholes in his prime. Carrick is neither strong nor fast enough to hold the fort and those around either go AWOL or give the ball away too easily. The fact that the hardworking (but lightweight and wasteful) Fletcher won so many plaudits says it all.
To make matters worse this gaping void sucks Rooney out of position, thereby wasting one of the finest attacking talents in world football.
So my message to Sir Alex is to find (1) a world class ball-winner and (2) a world class creative/goal-scoring central midfielder.
Then you might get the best out of both Rooney and Berbatov and the attacking picture will look a lot more rosy.
Just inquiring, after Fergies rant last season about the fixture list, did he take up the invitation to rig, ahem, sorry, watch the fixtures being drawn this year?
