Transfers - Your view: Should Prem raid Madrid?

Eurosport - Wed, 17 Jun 13:11:00 2009

Premier League clubs can now get their revenge on Real Madrid as the Spanish giants sell a host of stars. Tell us who you think they should buy on our transfer message boards!

Huntelaar83 - 0

Madrid president Florentino Perez needs to sell players to balance the books of his summer spending spree.

Reports from Spain say that Gabriel Heinze, Arjen Robben, Ruud Van Nistelrooy, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Wesley Sneijder, Rafael van der Vaart, Royston Drenthe, Mahamadou Diarra and Javier Saviola are all available for transfer.

With few clubs willing to match Madrid's profligate and possibly unnecessary spending on attacking players, common sense says that Manchester United, Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool should back off competing with Los Merengues for David Villa, Franck Ribery and the rest.

Instead they should look to pick off relative bargains at the Santiago Bernabeu, many of whom speak English.

Even the likes of Arsenal, Everton, Aston Villa and Tottenham could get involved for the likes of Huntelaar, Saviola and Diarra, while Drenthe could interest mid-table clubs.

Who should bid for who and why? Have your say on our transfer message boards!

  1. Madrid definitely has to sell their players........that's the cost of "Panic Buying".One overdoes buying to save face!!!

  2. I think liverpool should buy saviola and look to France for the likes of Cana and i also agree that robben would be a great signing for the left or right wing.

  3. utd should buy valencia + robben / silva for the wings, huntelaar and Sneijder. Could get all three from real for £35mil. Also swap nani for moutinho.

    Foster
    Rafeal Vidic Ferdinand Evra
Valencia Carrick Scholes Silva / Robben
    Rooney Berbatov

  5. I'd love liverpool to raid Real. We could pull Gerrard back into centre midfield along side Mascherano and offer Alonso in exchange for 4 out of the folloing 5: Van Der Vaart, Sneijder, Robben and either Saviola or Huntelaar. Saviola or Huntelaar providing quality back-up for Torres. Sneijder can play anywhere in midfield so great for his versatility and Robben who I thought had a very good season for Madrid could replace either Kuyt or Riera on the wings - Premiership know how as well so knows the league and he won't need time to bed in. But I know getting 4 out of the above 5 as a straight swap will be fantasy land - but can dream!!

  10. "Premier League clubs can now get their revenge on Real Madrid as the Spanish giants sell a host of stars"

Lets face it, this isn't an opportunity for 'revenge'. This is an opportunity for Real Madrid to choose to get rid of players they have just replaced with better players (2 of the best 3 players in the world). What's available to buy are players not needed any more, second rate players if you will.

They were all at Real last season and look what happened. Lets not get carried away. The only potential player for top football clubs in that list is Robben, and he's temperamental at best. Given Riera didn't perform as well as I expected last season, I think Robben would be a good addition to the Liverpool squad - but he would have to be rotated a lot through injury. Liverpool would then have attacking threats on both sides (Johnson, Robben), as well as Alonso, Gerrard and Torres through the middle.

  16. utd should get huntelaar and robben. They are going to be much cheaper that villa, benzema or ribery. If they cant get robben get silva as we basicly already have valencia bar a kenyon type mess up.
In: valencia, silva / robben, huntelaar / villa / etoo / benzema
    Out: ronaldo, teves, Campbell
    Swap nani for moutinho

  17. Common Saviola needs to do something about himself. How many coaches came to Real and No one even bother to use him. Maybe he'll be good for teams like Lyon and Marseille where he could actually play like Joninho did. He wasted a lot of time between Barca and Real.
Mamadou will be good where ever he goes. I hope he stays in Real though.

  18. There are definitely dutch players that need to be offloaded: Drenthe, Van der vart, Sneidjer, and Heinze. Those are Gotta go players. Now we have Van Nelstroy and Robben which they are both incredible however, Robben misses games too much due to injuries "you can count on him consistently" and Nelstroy, he has been really good but he is aging. Maybe they'll be a good swap for Ribery and Benzema of that's ever possile. Huntelaar has a great potential and Real should probably keep him.

From mehdi y, on Tue 16 Jun 10:03PM
  19. Huntelaar - Stay for a couple seasons, learn off the best.

Hull should be taking advantage and buying some of the talent on sale!!! likewise for other strugglers to be in the premier league, La liga and Serie A. tho english clubs have best bet....

From dodger, on Tue 16 Jun 9:45PM
  20. Heinze - Spurs or Hull
    Mahamadou Diarra - Aston Villa
Van Nistelrooy - Spurs or Everton
    Sneijer - Arsenal or Spurs
Van Der Vaart - Ac Milan or Liverpool
    Royston Drenthe - Blackburn
Robben - Man U, Chelsea or Barca. Basically any club that want/need him (he's incredible!)
    Saviola - Portsmouth or Sunderland
