Coyle ready for tough start

Wed 17 Jun, 01:51 PM

Burnley boss Owen Coyle accepts "it does not come any tougher" after his promoted side were handed clashes with champions Manchester United, Liverpool and fellow title challengers Chelsea in the opening weeks of the 2009/2010 Barclays Premier League season.

The Clarets returned to the top flight of English football for the first time since 1976 after beating Sheffield United 1-0 in the Coca-Cola Championship play-off final at Wembley.

On the opening day the Lancashire side kick off at Stoke, who stayed up last season, before Coyle must then prepare his men for the visit of United on Tuesday August 18, a home game against Europa League qualifiers Everton ahead of travelling to Chelsea on August 29 and then Anfield on September 12.

"What a fantastic start to have. It does not come any tougher and we are under no illusions about how difficult it will be," Coyle said on Sky Sports News.

"But it is fantastic we are even talking about it in same breath as Burnley Football Club and we aim to make the most of it. We know what it is about and we will be ready to give it our best."

  1. I have been over from west australia and travelled back to the turf to get my shirt this week. Burnley is unrecognisable- in the town and in the villages of east lancs and west yorkshire the claret flags hang proudly, there is a joy and confidence in the air that I havent seen before. Football really can be a positive force. Great to see so many positive messages from other clubs supporters particularly blades fans who must have been in real pain- a refreshing change from the mindless retorical manure/scouser/chelski/gooners etc- you see its not about winning everything-it was great to see hull stay up-goodon'um- its good to see stoke in the mix.Football is no more all about the champions league than it is about pies and whippets- if we go back down then so be it-for us being in the championship doesnt represent shame, theres some good footy played there and some great clubs- in the lottery of life you have to buy a ticket to win. Burnley 'Dared to Dream'and did it. All the football world should share the joy.Owen Coylre isnt god but he might just be his prophet

As a Liverpool fan and a football fan in general it's great to see Burnley in the premier league. Last season was brilliant for football, to see you not only have great cup runs but also promotion on top of that. Just hope you can keep a foothold in the prem. Good luck to Burnley F C and their fans.
