Hateley expects Mowbray to lift Hoops

Mark Hateley admits Rangers face a challenge to retain the Clydesdale Bank Premier League title with Tony Mowbray now at the Celtic helm.

Mowbray was unveiled to the media on Wednesday, before addressing fans who had gathered outside Parkhead to welcome his arrival in the east end of Glasgow.

"Any new manager at any club in Scotland is always going to be a challenge to play against," he said. "Because the new manager is at Celtic, it will especially be a challenge for Rangers."

He added: "Tony Mowbray has played a good quality of football wherever he has been, at Hibs and West Brom.

"The supporters will be delighted that this has been put to bed.

"They can move on now and look to build on a squad to challenge for the championship next year."

As for the feelgood factor surrounding Celtic at the moment, Hateley added: "You are always going to expect that.

"The fans get a big boost, everybody involved with the football club gets a big boost. It's how long that boost can last for. That's the secret.

"He's got a good group of players around him, although I'm not sure if that will be improved over the summer. It's a new challenge for Celtic and for the supporters."
