Pemberton leaving Reds

Wed 17 Jun, 12:38 PM

Reserve-team coach John Pemberton has left Nottingham Forest by mutual consent as part of manager Billy Davies` plans to re-organise his coaching staff.

The 44-year-old`s contract at the Championship club is set to be terminated on June 30.

Pemberton has been part of the backroom staff at the City Ground for more than a decade. He initially worked with the club`s academy before being promoted to the role of reserve-team coach by former boss Colin Calderwood in 2007.

The ex-Crystal Palace, Sheffield United and Leeds defender also had a brief spell as caretaker manager last season following Calderwood`s departure. He guided Forest to a Championship win against Norwich before overseeing their shock FA Cup victory at Manchester City.

The club also confirmed that fitness coach Ryland Morgans has also left the City Ground.

A statement read: "The club would like to place on record their thanks to both men for their hard work and wish them every success for the future."

  1. Is Davies on holiday? Then what was all that nonesense 1 month ago about him staying around to sign players and not wasting his time on the beach. More BS from Davies. HE HAS GOT TO GO BEFORE IT"S TOO LATE.

  3. I hope so Spider. I have a great deal of respect for John Pemberton. As you say, watch this space. In time his name will be up there with the best.

  4. A sad day indeed for Nottingham Forest and for a man who has a 100% record in football management, albeit in only a few games, but as Kevin P commented, 'a very capable coach who made disillusioned players perform'. Dead right mate.

Perhaps we will see him back here in a few years' time.

  5. Nottingham Forest need to get back on track; get rid of the present manager, get someone in who cares about the club and has the passion, drive and determination to take this famous club forward.

  6. I also agree with Steve. And as another Forest fan since the mid sixties I also see this as the worst time I can remember. In my previous comments on this and the Forest website I've said that BD is the wrong man for the job. He is currently dismantling the future of this club by getting rid of all the young prospects we had and replacing them with players who are past their best, will last only a season or two and be worth nothing in transfer fees, leaving me to conclude that BD has not got an ounce of business sense or foresight in his tiny little brain.
Releasing John Pemberton is a major disaster and one that BD has obviously thought carefully about. He knows that he could be a better manager than himself and he doesn't want the competition so he's engineered a way out - pity the Forest board of directors can't see straight through him. Watch this space as I also believe that John Pemberton will be snapped up and will become a very good manager in the future.
Given the board of directors, the management team and the present manager, my passion for this club is at an all time low. As a supporter of Calderwood's vision of the future, if not his tactics, he was assembling a young team for the future benefit of Nottingham Forest and I believe he is a better team manager, a better motivator, and more professional and dignified than BD will ever be.

  7. Agree with you 100% on all counts Steve. I have also supported Forest since the mid sixties and now is the worst I can remember. Even the pre Clough second division days and being relegated from the Premiership were not as bad as this. Because then we had hope. Now I have little to cling to.
Davies is definitely the wrong man. And you and I are not the only ones who think that.
As for John Pemberton. Not only a very capable coach who made disillusioned players perform (and I agree it was him who kept us up, not the BS BD), but also a very nice guy. Good luck John (not that you will need it - you will be snapped up very quickly).

  8. Not impressed Forest let him go, as it was not for is job as caretaker manager last season we would not have stayed up. I thnk Davies thinks to much of himself on how he kept Forest up and forgets what John Pemberton did during his period. So far I have not seen anything that Davies does as being beneficial to the clubs future advancement. For example where are these signings that he has said he needs, funny how no new players of any standing want to come to the club usually shows lack of confidence in working with the manager.

I have been a Forest Fan for over 30 years and have seen the highs and lows but currently we have the wrong manager for the club.
