Johnson: Meteb was main priority

Thu 17 Jul, 01:30 PM

Bristol City boss Gary Johnson insists Egypt international striker Emad Meteb was his number one transfer target this summer.Johnson broke the Robins transfer record to finally get his man, spending £1.5million to bring the 25-year-old to Ashton Gate from Al Ahly on a three-year deal.

"Meteb has always been our number one target. He is a quality finisher and a fox in the box. We have needed one of those for a little while and I think he can work well with any of the strikers we have got at the club," Johnson told City's official website.

"We have been tracking him for some time. I have been over to Egypt, as have other members of my staff. We saw him play in all the African Cup of Nations games and we liked his style and personality.

"Meteb has a good work rate and a sporting personality that people will like. We just hope he gets his goals early and gets his confidence up. He will be a major part of our squad."
