Vale boss closes in on loan duo

Thu 17 Jul, 03:00 PM

Port Vale boss Lee Sinnott is hoping to tie up the signings of Leicester striker Louis Dodds and Simon Heslop from Barnsley.Sinnott is waiting on a decision from Dodds and is due to hold further talks with midfielder Heslop before joining the Vale squad at their pre-season training camp. Heslop, 21, is also a target for League Two rivals Rochdale and Grimsby.

Dodds, 21, who spent last season on loan in League Two with Lincoln, is on a week-to-week contract at City.

Any transfer would see the Foxes entitled to compensation for the player who has risen through the academy ranks at Leicester as he is under the age of 24.

"We have already spoken to Louis Dodds, who was at Vale Park earlier in the week, and we are waiting to see how that develops," Sinnott told Vale's official website.

"Simon Heslop will hopefully be coming to the ground on Thursday for talks. Initially he was due to come in on Wednesday but was unable to, and I would much rather talk to him face to face than over the phone, so I have stayed behind to do so.

"Even if both players agree to join Port Vale, we will still have to talk to Leicester and Barnsley before we can take things further, but you are always hopeful you can do business."
