Egypt striker Emad Metab has joined Bristol City from Al-Ahly in a club-record £1.5 million deal.
The 25-year-old signed a three-year contract with the 2008 Championship play-off runners-up.
The transfer eclipsed the previous Robins record of £1.2 million, paid for Ade Akinbiyi ten years previously.
"I'm happy to be here and I hope to give all my best for Bristol City," Metab told the club website.
"I am a natural striker and I know all about Bristol City. I know the kind of supporters that are waiting to see me play.
"I want to help the club win promotion to the Premier League."
Metab has impressed for both club and country, helping Al-Ahly to four consecutive domestic championships and two African Champions League titles since he made the breakthrough to the first team in 2004.
The hard-working centre-forward has scored 22 goals in 47 appearances for the Egyptian national team, including three in the 2006 African Cup of Nations triumph.
Managed by Gary Johnson, Bristol City launched a surprise bid for promotion to the Premier League, although a lack of depth to their strikeforce was exposed when Steve Brooker picked up an injury later in the campaign.
Metab will provide competition to Brooker, Lee Trundle and Dele Adebola.
