Paatelainen: Party time after win

Sun 17 Aug, 02:30 PM

Mixu Paatelainen has revealed how his Hibernian players enjoyed the 3-2 SPL win over Falkirk with a post-match party in the dressing room. After a woeful pre-season that saw the Easter Road side fail to pick up a win and their opening day loss at Kilmarnock, Hibs were feeling the pressure heading into the Bairns clash.

However, the Leith outfit eventually found their feet, Colin Nish opening the scoring after just 25 seconds before doubling his tally in the 25th minute.

Michael Higdon then grabbed a brace either side of a Paul Hanlon goal for the hosts.

Home boss Paatelainen, whose own future at the club has been the subject of constant speculation, said: "It's the first victory and you should have seen the boys in the dressing room. They were absolutely over the moon celebrating.

"It meant a lot to them and hopefully now we will learn from this game again, what we did right and wrong.

"I thought we were very positive and created a lot of chances. We created a lot of chances, we produced plenty of crosses and had a lot of efforts at their goal.

"We could have scored more with the boys' positive approach to the game.

"To score so early, that relaxes everyone, especially with the situation we have been in.

"When you are a striker and you don't score, you keep wondering but you keep believing."

Falkirk piled on the pressure at the end of the game in search of an equaliser but Paatelainen was delighted with the way the players held out.

He said: "Falkirk are a good team, they pass the ball well and they created chances.

"Whenever they get a free-kick on the halfway line, they put it in.

"It must have been a very exciting game to watch."

Meanwhile, Falkirk manager John Hughes lamented his side's poor defending after seeing them concede three sloppy goals.

He said: "It was self-explanatory, you can't defend the way we did and try and take something from the match.

"That's not having a go at the back four, that's having a go at everyone from the front to the back.

"You give yourself a mountain to climb but all credit to the boys because they gave it a go. The match was enjoyable and end to end.

"We had some good passages of play but I expect more from my team and we need to make ourselves harder to beat."
