Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick is certain to miss England's friendly against the Czech Republic this week, after picking up an ankle injury.
The former Tottenham player limped off after just 25 minutes of Sunday's 1-1 Premier League draw with Newcastle at Old Trafford.
Red Devils manager Sir Alex Ferguson immediately ruled him out of contention for Fabio Capello's England squad on Wednesday.
Ferguson claimed Carrick would be out for "two to three weeks", revealing his ankle had "swollen up badly" following his substitution.
