Amaechi spoke to Eurosport as an ambassador for the Special Olympics GB National Summer Games which takes place in Leicester from July 25-31, 2009.

Who is your sporting hero?

Daley Thomson, an old-time decathlete. It's not sports specific to me, he always presents himself with a great deal of class and I appreciate that for those who are at the very highest echelon.

What's the worst country you've ever visited?

One of the former Russian republics, where they were arresting people for jaywalking and the only way you could get out of it was by giving them two pounds as a bribe. It was a very expensive, brutal trip. Literally, every time we stepped out of the hotel we'd have to pay the police for something.

What's your favourite film?

"Beautiful Thing" by Hettie Macdonald back in 1996. I found it resonated with my life at that time and it provided some great introspection for me.

How big is your TV?

30" plasma. I've been told by everybody who asks me that it's embarrassingly small for an athlete.

What was the first record you bought?

"That's What Friends are For" by Dionne Warwick.

If you were one of the A-Team, who would you be?

I would have been Hannibal because being the boss is always good.

If a grizzly bear and a tiger shark had a fight who would win?

Is it on land or in water? I would say tiger shark.

Who do you think is the better person, Tim Hardaway, Penny Hardaway, or "What Is Love" singer Haddaway?

Definitely not Tim Hardaway, maybe Penny. Oh, the "Baby don't hurt me" guy? I've changed my mind, I'm going with Haddaway. He gave me hours of teenage enjoyment.

What car do you drive?

Audi Q7.

Who is the best player you've ever played against?

Tim Duncan. I think he is a consistent league MVP, given that being an MVP is about winning games and not just scoring points.
