Premier League - Fergie fury at Terry let-off

Eurosport - Wed, 17 Sep 13:26:00 2008

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has expressed anger at the decision to overturn Chelsea captain John Terry's sending off last weekend.

2008-2009 Manchester United Sir Alex Ferguson - 0

Terry is now free to face United this weekend after winning an appeal against his straight red card for serious foul play in Chelsea's Barclays Premier League win at Manchester City on Saturday.

Ferguson claims a Manchester United player in the same situation would not have been so fortunate.

The Scot believes the appeal verdict was influenced by Keith Hackett, head of the Professional Game Match Officials Board, and not referee Mark Halsey.

Ferguson, quoted in The Times, said: "From what I have heard, Keith Hackett has told the referee to rescind the red card and he wouldn't do it.

"If it had been a Manchester United player, Keith Hackett wouldn't have done this.

"If the referee has made a mistake, this is going to happen all the time."

  1. Give over Fergie I'm a disenchanted West Ham fan and hate Chelsea with a passion but it was the right decision by the FA especially if you look at the later foul by the Man City player. I wonder did you drop Hacket a few quid get an easy ride next week.

  5. Everyone chelsea fan out there seems to forget that Man U had David Beckham and despite his obvious contributions to our game we still sold him, same goes for Rudd Boy...Did you see Chelsea scramble and react when Inter went for Lampard. And you blue F.... speak wild and loud about nothing. Chelsea played well in Moscow but Man U obvoiusly played better. Even in the league last season when it mattered most Arsenal faltered and Chelsea choked...Man Utd marched on...That's the stuff champions are made of.

  8. Why does Mr Ferguson make himself look such a fool, didn't one of his players make the same sort of challenge against a liverpool player!!!...and it was a lot closer to the penalty area, not by the halfway line as was JT'S.
I think it's a case of foot in mouth again Mr Ferguson.

  12. Fergie is right! A red card is for an offense made by a player. In this case a STRAIGHT RED. Weird isn't it... It must be a very serious offense. Terry I think is not so a good player. England captain getting a re card... what a shame

Man u is not a club ,their players are called flukies. they won all the matches by fluke. C ronaldo is a magician instead of a player. come on just go on play you magic. they are the best club in europe , @#$%. they are the luckiest club in europe actually. john terry is a great player. fergie is fear to face him man u is going to lose 0-5 to chelsea for sure

  16. It is highly embarassing to hear a Manager of Sir Alex Fergie's caliber talk like this, moreso when his own player commited a similar foul the same weekend.
The season hadn't kicked off before he started panicking about Chelsea - the Chelsea players are too old.Now that he has seen their performance, he prefers that all of them are shown red so that he will have a free ride come Sunday.
Forget about his story(call it history if you like), Fergie has achieved so much in football locally(this information is from his trouphy cupboard). Scolari has beaten the whole world(this can be seen in his trouphy cupboard).
In recent times the Portugees have been incharge of Man U, one has left, the other sidelined and the result both at Premier league and champions league can attest to this.
Please can someone leaving in the present takeover at Man U.

  18. So Man U drew 0-0 tonight, perhaps it's the refs fault or maybe the linesmen, maybe it was Ronaldo's fault, when he came on, doing silly tricks instead of playing football, Portsmouth's Campbell had the right idea, watch him do all the tricks, then just push him over..lol it was great to watch,. we'll have to wait and see what reaction or excuse ferguson comes up with for not scoring

  19. Is there not an old saying that goes "put brain in gear before you put you're mouth into motion" with some of the comments ferguson comes out with, it seems he fails to do so....lol mummy must have been bloody rich, coz there goes his toy's again.

  20. Alex should have quit when the ovation was loudest. Unfortunately he will win nothing till he quits. The frustration is already showing in his comment.
