Formula One world champion Kimi Raikkonen said he needed a miracle to retain his title following a disappointing Italian Grand Prix.
With four races left, the Ferrari driver is fourth and 21 points behind McLaren's championship leader Lewis Hamilton after trailing in ninth at a rainswept Monza on Sunday.
The Finn, who won the title last year after making up a 17-point deficit in the final two races, still refused to give up his championship hopes despite three grands prix in a row without a point.
"You don't have to be [Albert] Einstein to understand that this is not the right way to fight for the title," he told Ferrari's website.
"It's not over yet, but now it will take a miracle, like one that makes lightning strike twice."
Brazilian team-mate Felipe Massa, who finished sixth at Monza and a place ahead of McLaren's Hamilton, is now just a point behind the Briton overall.
Raikkonen, who signed a new deal with Ferrari until 2010 last week, was still reluctant to commit to helping his team-mate.
"Things are definitely not going my way," he said. "Sometimes it happens, but that won't lower my spirit or my determination.
"I want to try and win again this season. You never know what will happen in a race and you can't make any programs.
"Obviously the team has two goals to reach (the constructors' and drivers' championships) and they will give their best.
"I will give my best... as usual."
Raikkonen hopes the Singapore GP on September 28, F1's first night race, will suit him better after blaming the lack of grip from his tyres in the wet for his problems in Italy.
"It seems as if it is going to rain at every remaining race. We had enough water at Monza already...the atmosphere [at Singapore] will be very exciting and the hot and humid weather might work to our advantage," he added.

And maybe jbolan is really from Peru? I wonder.
I think this guy might have a genuine problem - I've seen other comments by him and they are a bit weird to say the least - Nothing offensive really just weird.

He made up 17 points in 2 races last year and he can do it again. Kimi will fight to the end and IF he comes out of the race for the championship then he'll return the favour Massa did last year for him. But lightning can strike twice as he said. Don't say he has no chance untill he is definetly out
Well, you can never tell in F1, and Kimi definitely has many great qualities on his side, besides his humble sense of reality (Unlike some). I'm sure he will keep his word and do his best.
As for Singapore, I just saw a CG video of the street circuit at the Toro Rosso site, and it is unbelievably awesome.
I love the way the writer of this story thinks that they have to put Einstein's first name in brackets so we don't all get confused with the other famous Einsteins's, such as er.............. ummmmmmmmmm..........
Evidence of writers underestimating their audience methinks!
Beegees. You are a racist "undesirable element". Bet you have a beard, hardly wash, about 45 and still live with your mum. You only make comments like that because you are a nobody and you want attention.....boo hoo for you!
KIMMI'S LUCKY DAY WAS WHEN ~~~ MASSA PROMISED ~~~ NOT ~~ TO BE HIS FRIEND ``! !!
Yeah, Kimi will need a miracle, but don't expect Lewis to do the same favour of losing 17 points in 2 races and hang the championship crown to him.
The best bet is Massa. This is probably Massa's best chance to win the driver's title for himself. The opportunity may not come if Kimi gets his form back.

Kimi Will do all he can to follow team orders and that will be supporting Massa to achieve the title as well as contributing any points that he can to the all important Constructors Championship. Remember any points he scores takes them aways from competitors and their teams!
No, but I've been to Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires. I now live in the US.
I'm half-Spanish, half-Italian, but I've lived in 5 different countries.

Je croyais ça impossible, mais je pense avoir trouvé le plus grand con de la planète! Félicitations, Mr. Jbolan. Vous êtes le c o n n a r d de l'année.
