Goals from Brazilians Fabiano and Renato saw Sevilla ease past Unirea Urziceni 2-0 at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan in their Champions League Group G opener.
Fabiano opened the scoring with a glorious left-foot strike in first half stoppage time and Renato sealed the points on 70 minutes, heading home from close range.
The win means the Group G favourites have now lost just once in 43 home European fixtures as they look to the last 16.
Unirea were making their Champions League debut and ex-Chelsea star Dan Petrescu appeared to have settled for damage limitation as the Romanians packed their defence.
Despite the blue wall, Frederic Kanoute came close with a deflected shot which left Unirea keeper Giedrius Arlauskis helpless before Diego Capel forced the Lithuanian into a smart save at the near post.
Three yellow cards in the first period showed the Romanians' indiscipline and they were almost punished when Fabiano's goalbound free kick was pushed away by the alert stopper.
The Brazilian was proving to be a thorn in the Unirea side and while his snapshot from Capel's cross resulted in a desperate last-ditch block, the Sevilla striker was not to be denied.
Just when the Romanians thought it was job done, Renato stormed down the left and Fabiano finished superbly from his countryman's cut back.
Surprisingly, there was no change of tactics by Petrescu for the second half.
A sustained spell of home pressure saw Capel fire high and wide and Arlauskis again did well to deny Sevilla sub Alvaro Negredo.
The inevitable goal came on 70 minutes. Diego Perotti swung in the corner, Fabiano headed goalwards and as Arlauskis came out, Renato was on hand to glance the ball into the empty net.
Renato almost doubled his money with five minutes remaining when he chested the ball down, only for the ball to come back off the post with Arlauskis beaten.
It was no more then the Spaniards deserved, but they can look forward to the rest of the campaign with some confidence after a performance that swept the Romanian minnows away.
