Ligue 1 - Deschamps: Inexperience cost us

Marseille boss Didier Deschamps pointed to inexperience as the reason for the 2-1 Champions League defeat to Milan.

The Ligue 1 champions dominated the second half of the Group C clash but fell to a typical poacher's double from Rossoneri striker Filippo Inzaghi.

The French press reacted positively to the performance, but Deschamps (pictured) only cares about results.

"At the highest level nothing but the score-line counts," the former Juventus coach said on the club website.

"We can say that we did some good things and even that we should have taken the lead at one point but, like I said before, Milan are Milan.

"They are one of the best teams when it comes to making the difference. (Keeper Steve) Mandanda did not have much to deal with but with a player like Inzaghi you only need a half-second lapse of concentration for him to score."

Deschamps thinks a poor first-half performance - when they went behind to Inzaghi's far-post finish after a trademark diagonal run - and Milan's experience at the highest level contributed to the result.

"Okay, so there were some good things in the second half but we were under pressure in the first half," he continued.

"We played a really good match but, as is often the case, Italian pragmatism has paid off with the experienced players accustomed to big matches.

"Milan may have problems domestically but in the Champions League it is another matter entirely."
