Daley Interest In Video Ref Plan

Wed 17 Oct, 01:09 PM

Former Australia skipper Laurie Daley has cautiously backed a plan that would allow captains to stop play and challenge referees' decisions in NRL matches.

Daley, a member of the NRL think tank charged with discussing law changes for next year's competition, said letting captains challenge a decision via a video referee once or twice per half was a good idea on paper.

However, he insisted that the proposal would need careful consideration before it could become law.

"Everything sounds good in theory (but) what I think you need to do is sit down and work out ramifications and what impact that will have on the game and whether it's feasible to be able to do that," Daley said.

Daley revealed that he has concerns over how such a law would affect the flow of a match or a team's momentum.

"That's something they're certainly going to look at a little more," he continued.

"The game's flowing and something happens - do you just call time-out straight away and stop the whole game?

"There are things still to be worked out, but in principle it was agreed to have a look at it.

"They've got to go to the next process, which is to talk to the coaches and maybe look at some change."
