Shrimps prove point again

Morecambe registered their ninth stalemate in 13 League Two games as they shared a 2-2 draw with Torquay at Plainmoor.

Torquay, who have now drawn their last four league games, took the lead from a 19th-minute penalty after referee Pat Miller spotted an infringement in the box following a corner.

Midfielder Nicky Wroe thrashed the spot-kick down the middle, giving debutant Shrimps goalkeeper Ben Smith - signed on loan from Doncaster - no chance.

Within four minutes, though, Morecambe restored parity as winger Mark Duffy cut in from the right to send a low drive past outstretched home goalkeeper Michael Poke and in at the far post.

Duffy could have doubled his tally in the 30th minute but he sent another angled drive from the right across the face of goal.

As half-time approached recalled Shrimps striker Phil Jevons - on a season-long loan from Huddersfield - had his shot from 15 yards cleared off the line by Tyrone Thompson.

But Morecambe scored with their first attack of the second half, a 47th-minute raid down the right wing.

Jevons crossed to strike partner Paul Mullin, who steered the ball in at the far post despite diving Poke getting a hand to his shot.

United responded with half-time substitute Wayne Carlisle swooping from the left wing to head home at the far post in the 53rd minute from Sills' cross.
