Wenger confirms Campbell training with Gunners

Sat, 17 Oct 09:30:54 2009

Arsene Wenger has confirmed Sol Campbell is training with Arsenal but maintained the Gunners would not be making a move for their former captain.

The 35-year-old centre-half joined big-spending Coca-Cola League Two side Notts County in August amid a blaze of publicity, but walked out on the club less than a month later.

Asked whether Arsenal would take the situation further, Wenger replied: "With us? No. We help him out to get fit."

He added: "We help him to be fit again. When you are used to a team sport, it can be difficult to keep completely fit on your own. Sol asked me if he could come back here and have some fitness sessions. We help him out."

  2. the way chelsea had depth at last minute to finish not in the finals against barca.please football is not bacon and bread or pictures in black and white, check the U20 Brasillian team played all and still lost to Ghana.Am an Arsenal fan and yes its tough on the fans not to have won a trophy in all 4 seasons, but we have maintained that its not money that determines most times Liverpool spent just slightly above Man U they still did not take a silverware.

  4. Well done Dale for telling it like it is, take no notice of the sheep who hang on every word from AW's mouth.

Arsenal have won nothing for years, and that's down to a lack of depth in the squad, which is why they start well and finish poorly.

AW has his own agenda, win everything without spending, he wants to leave a legacy with his name on it, and that's more important to him than Arsenal FC.

He has had enough money available to him over the years to buy the players he needs, but he refuses to do so, over the past five years the club has made a PROFIT on transfers of over five million quid.

The team urgently needs a commanding defensive midfield play-maker, they never replaced Vieira.

  5. When on Arsenal supporter tells it like it is, he gets the thrashing from Arsenal supporters themselves. The guy used past years and injury statuses to conclude what he did. Instead of asking him to rejoin the line of sheep, can you tell him where he is wrong or just shut up?

  11. I don't know Sol Campbell's fitness, but you gotta wonder how Wenger operates sometimes, sometimes he can be a hero and other times a goat. The whole Chamakh saga, "I like him"..."I don't need him anymore" ..the whole Melo saga, the whole Van Der Vaart saga, Huntelaar....Vieira..tis snail-like move to secure cheap players who can add depth and quality to the current squad with an injury\fitness problem, the cold months are not taking into account and that's when we falter for the last 4 years, hence our inability to finish tops in all competitions, A Champions League team has to have major depth to compete, especially at defence and striker positions. We have a lot of midfield\attacking MF players with a handful strikers (RVP, Eduardo and Bendtner as pure strikers) and yet this man's thought is to save all the earnings..for what? the stadium pay off has it own plans and player acquisition should have it's own plan, Djourou is out for the season, he rarely relies on Senderos and Sylvestre is pat it, yet he doesn't see an oportunity to add Campbell..well maybe Campbell isn't worth it, I sure hope he is signing a defender or dmf in january, as well as bringing in Sunu\Watts into the fold for january, or else we will be found wanting again, we have no powerful striker to win the ball upfront, all we have is finesse, no goal poacher and no ball winner upfront and at the back, we have been allowed to play our finesse game against most, but if the Manchester games are to be used, WE COULD HAVE WON, but we didn't and it's cause of a lack of ball winning, the rough stuff that makes winners, winners. I hope this stubborness won't tarnish 13 respectable years at Arsenal. Eduardo is injured again, Nasri has been out, Walcott is in for now, RVP has been blessed, Bendtner crashed his Aston Martin and walked out miraculously, Arshavin was out due to fitness, Denilson is out for 2 months, Song will be out i
