Manchester City youngster Ched Evans may be about to win only his fourth Wales Under-21 cap but he is already on course for a senior call-up.Evans spent the week training in Cardiff with John Toshack's seniors, before heading to Wrexham on Thursday to join up with Brian Flynn's Under-21s.
The 18-year-old, who impressed with Toshack's squad, will play against Bosnia-Herzegovina at the Racecourse ground in an UEFA Under-21 Championship qualifier on Saturday night.
But he is likely to be involved with the seniors after the Euro 2008 qualifying campaign ends in the next few days with matches against the Republic of Ireland in Cardiff and away to Germany in Frankfurt on Wednesday.
Evans has already made a brief debut appearance as a substitute for Manchester City against Norwich in the 1-0 Carling Cup victory in September at Eastlands.
He is now expected to be named in Wales' next friendly, against Norway in February, also at the Racecourse.
Joining him in that squad could also be another new face in West Ham midfielder Jack Collinson, who is expected to make his under-21 debut this evening.
Wales discovered Collison's Welsh qualification only recently - the Watford-born 19-year-old has a grandfather from the Rhondda.
Football Association of Wales spokesman Ceri Stennett said: "His mother has been very helpful providing birth certificates and information about his grandfather and we were soon able to prove that Jack could play for us."
Collison was involved in West Ham's pre-season friendlies as well as their senior squad in recent weeks, travelling with the party to Coventry for the Carling Cup tie and then being added to boss Alan Curbishley's squad for the home league match with Bolton.
He did not get on the final team-sheet for either but has certainly impressed his more experienced Wales colleagues in the West Ham ranks.
"The lad is brilliant, if he keeps going like this he will very soon be in the senior Wales squad," said defender James Collins.
"He has been around the first team this season and he has made a big impression."
West Ham academy director Tony Carr added: "This is a big moment for Jack. There was a time when we felt he would be available for England but this is still a big chance for him.
"To play at international level will be a big experience for him. He will relish the opportunity and I am sure he will do well."
Collison, a tall central midfielder, said: "I spoke to Brian Flynn a week before the squad was announced. He told me it was a good opportunity for me.
"To be honest, I did not expect to be involved in international football at this stage of my career but it can only help my game improve more."
Toshack will get a full report on his performance when the Under-21s travel down to Cardiff on Sunday to join up with the seniors at their Vale of Glamorgan hotel.
The Under-21s then have a tough home qualifier with France at Ninian Park on Tuesday, while the seniors head to Frankfurt to face Germany.
