Rossi content ahead of Ferrari test

Motorcycling world champion Valentino Rossi was happy with his second-place finish at the Monza Rally as he continues to try out four wheels ahead of a two-day Ferrari Formula One test on Thursday.

Rossi, who was looking for a hat-trick of wins after triumphing in the two previous editions of the Monza Rally, won his sixth MotoGP crown in 2008.

"I would settle for winning the World Championship every year and finishing second here," Rossi said.

Driving a Ford Focus WRC car, Rossi led heading into the third stage, but a mistake cost the eight-time world champion 27 seconds.

He dropped to sixth yet steadily climbed back up the order, finally moving ahead of Alessandro Caffi (Peugeot) and Piero Longhi (Subaru) on the final stage to finish 20.3 seconds behind winner Rinaldo Capello of Ford.

The Italian also remarked on the decisions of Formula One great Michael Schumacher and rally champion Sebastien Loeb to try out bikes.

"Our problem is that after winning everything in our categories we like to seek out new motivations," he said.

  1. It would be interesting to see how Vale would go in an F1 race, practice and the real thing are two different animals. It would be fantastic to see him win an F1 race, even more fantastic would be the look on Flavio's face, a real anti Rossi man if ever there was one and has openly stated that F1 does,nt need the type of celebrations that Rossi enjoys doing after a win. Keep up the good work Vale, Stay where you are appreciated. looking forward to the new season. After thought, any room in F1 for alberto ?

  2. Can remember saying that "if my dad was a millionaire and could buy me a Ducati 125, I would be quicker than Mike Hailwood.". Total rubbish, of course. These guys have fantastic responses and belief in their ability to control motor vehicles.
John Surtees is the only motorcycle and car World Champion, wonder if Valentino Rossi could do the same and add a WRC crown as well?

  4. Vale won't race the Ferrari F1 car. Why? Age. He's said in the past that this stuff is just fun and games. By the time he finishes his GP career he feels he'll be too old to compete in F1 at optimum level. If he can dominate then why race.... I would like to see him run Fiat Ralley Cars since they are his GP sponsor, but at least he's racing something.
