Louis Doddss sixth goal of the season edged injury-hit Port Vale past Blue Square Premier high-fliers Stevenage in their FA Cup first round replay at Broadhall Way.

Port Vale's John McCombe (r) celebrates scoring the opening goal of the game with teammate Louis Dodds - 0

The former Leicester youngster settled the tie midway through the first half after Boro captain Mark Roberts's dreadful backpass played him in.

Stevenage substitute Darren Murphy flashed a shot wide in the closing stages but the hosts could not force an equaliser and suffered their first defeat at home in almost a year.

Joe Anyinsah's goal on five minutes was enough to lift Carlisle to a 1-0 win at Morecambe, while Ash Taylor's late goal handed Tranmere a 1-0 win at Leyton Orient.

Anyinsah latched onto a superb ball from the experienced Graham Kavanagh after just five minutes and drilled a stinging shot that gave home goalkeeper Barry Roche no chance.

Tranmere broke the deadlock following a midfield free-kick with Taylor lashing his shot low into the near corner from Shaleum Logan's cross after 83 minutes.

Brentford were far too strong for Gateshead, ending the minnows' quest with a 5-2 win.

Goals from Ben Strevens, Charlie MacDonald (2) and Myles Weston (2) saw the Bees safely through to a meeting with Walsall on Saturday week.

Conal Platt scored twice as Forest Green snatched a 2-1 win at Mansfield - with his second goal coming in the last minute.

Platt opened the scoring with a fine free-kick in the 40th minute and, after Kyle Perry had equalised for the Stags, the Rovers striker grabbed his side's winner in injury-time to set up a second round meeting with Bath City.
