Sunderland boss Roy Keane met with the club's hierarchy at the weekend to finalise his transfer plans for January.
Reports suggest that Keane will be handed more than £20million to spend when the transfer window opens next month.
Keane has already stated his determination to bring in established players who could make an immediate impact on the Black Cats' squad.
"I had a meeting with Peter Walker [chief executive] and I spoke to Niall Quinn last week and we have a few targets which we have made enquiries about," said Keane.
"We have four or five players in mind but I am sure the players I am interested in, other clubs are interested in as well.
"I enjoyed the meeting with Peter but I wouldn't want one every day as a manager. It was good to get the feedback which I got.
"It's meetings like that when you can rule players in and rule players out.
"You can put things to bed and then you can narrow down to the players you actually want anyway.
"You make enquiries about certain players and there will be times when you get negative feedback and you think 'well I didn't really want him anyway'.
"We are hoping to get the right mix, the right balance.
"Whoever comes in, in January, we know we need the right mix of experience. I hope to add Premier League experience as well because a lot of the players we have brought in have not had that."
Hectic
Keane has endured a hectic week after going to check on a player in Europe and he insists he will not be jetting around the continent over the coming month.
"I don't like sitting at airports for two or three hours and then finding the flight is cancelled and the same for the train, but that's the challenge of going to see players who you might be interested in," he said.
"It is alright until your flight or your train gets cancelled. It has been a busy week.
"I don't intend to travel six or seven days a week but I had an opportunity this week to travel to see a player.
"That is what you have to do, but I certainly wouldn't be keen about jetting around Europe. My energies are needed more here. But we are looking everywhere for players.
"A lot will depend on how much they cost because while I have a few bob to spend, you don't want to be paying silly money.
"I know I have to try to wheel and deal a bit and generate a few sales as well.
"We have two European scouts in place now and we are working on getting another one or two.
"I am sure we could get ten scouts in tomorrow but we are trying to get the right people.''
