Weekend speculation had suggested the Baggies boss was ready to make big-money January moves for out-of-favour Villa striker Moore (pictured) and promising young left-back Murphy.

But Mowbray was quick to set the record straight by insisting he had not made contact with Villa boss Martin O'Neill or Hibs manager John Collins and is happy with his current crop of players.

"I don't know where this is coming from - I haven't spoken to Martin (O'Neill) about any of his players," Mowbray told the club's official website.

"I also haven't had a conversation with John (Collins) or his chairman Rod Petrie about David Murphy - both stories are pure speculation.

"I'm reasonably happy with my squad of players - the team are doing okay, but if the right player becomes available at the right price, I'm sure the chairman will be happy to have a conversation."
