Ferrari have bucked the global economic crisis squeezing Formula One by agreeing a sponsorship deal with Indian carmaker Tata.
"For the first time an Indian brand will appear on the Ferrari," president Luca di Montezemolo said.
"It's historic."
A Ferrari spokesman confirmed a deal had been reached and said the details and duration would be announced shortly.
Tata and Ferrari's parent company Fiat have a joint venture in the Indian state of Maharashtra to produce cars.
Formula One approved a package of cost-cutting measures last week to help the sport after the economic crisis led to Honda's withdrawal.

Mallya also owns an airline so he's got a few bob. The other big player in India is Reliance who also have a finger in almost every pie, maybe we'll see them taking an interest as well now as Tata and Reliance seem to compete in almost every area of business.
Perhaps Fiat/Ferrari are about to be the subject of a takeover bid from Tata! a Land Rover with a Ferrari engine??? in Formula 1 in a couple of seasons?
P.s. Can somebody please dispose of that "Peruvian" moron that calls itself Marion or something similar?
MARION, you're showing your true color: RED
Yes, Tata's are not just a car company they are a truly huge. They manufacture all sorts of stuff from salt to trucks. Tetley tea is owned by the them and many other Engg Co, in UK. Dr.VJ Mallya's company is into alcohole business. Can't compare with Tata's.
Karthikeyan for a race seat with Ferrari, then....
Will TATA be allowed to advertise a jaguar disembowling a prancing horse on the Ferrari?
Wtf Tata Ferrari ??? is it April 1st today ?
Has anyone heard about Prodrives boss Richards raising money at the moment. Is this to make a move on Honda F1?
Never Y,
your continuous copying and pasting, the same comments, every day, on every story. Is it clear sign, of some sort of mental illness. It's time to let go, and move on.
All you all doing now, is making a Ferrari fan, look stupid. Your obsession, with Hamilton, McLaren and Glock, is showing the characteristics of a psychiatric disorder.
kellyd2892 - Tata are not just a car company they are a truly huge conglomerate and I mean really big. They manufacture all sorts of stuff and even have a subsidiary that writes software they are very diverse.
I dont know much about VJ Mallya's company so I dont know if there is a great deal of competition between the two - but I wouldnt be surprised if there was.
I don't understand why Tata went with Ferrari when Force India was the home team, and its interesting that Fiat let them do it.
kabsl, think carefully my friend before you support tatari.you do realise you will have to have a frontal lobotomy!!!!
i'm actually surprised that Tata have signed with Ferrari. they previously had a deal with williams as sponsor when Karthikeyan used to test for them. But i suppose with the flambouyant VJ Mallya owning a team and working with Mclaren, rivals Tata also wanted a peice of the action and signed a deal with Ferrari.
being indian, this may be the first time i 'have' to support ferrari!!
especially for NEVER Y, you sir are a total pr**t, If you can't think of anything sensible to say crawl back into what ever hole you came from.
You have now posted the same garbage of evey entry I have looked at for the last few days. I know it might be a taxing for your miniscule brain but change the record. Your rubbish postings are wearing a bit thin.
chtech06: pity it wasn't TATA FIA!
Are Tata not the same people who bought Jaguar and Land-Rover from Ford??? I suppose the red cars will be using Vindaloo as octane booster now!
Tatarrari ?
Tatarari ?
theres your third ferrari another piece of tata!!!!!!!!!!
I see a bad loser or someone that likes the cheating red cars!!! hamilton had a lucky season but ferrari are always up to no good and bending the rules. you do have to feel for massa shame he has to drive a ferrari.
